A Timeless Lovestyle – Kiltie Jackson

As a fan of the Lovestyle series, I was over the moon to be gifted a copy of book four in the series by the author, and today I am going to tell you all about it.

BLURB:

While taking a cooling stroll alongside the river, on a hot, summer’s day, Molly Smythe stumbles and falls in. Unable to swim, the strong current pulls her down into the deep, murky depths. The year is 1860. When Charlie Rowland comes to Molly’s rescue, and pulls her from the water, she finds herself in the twenty-first century.

Charlie knows there’s something different about Molly and gains her trust, whereupon she shares her new secret with him. Molly needs to prove she is telling the truth but no one can find any record of her, or her family’s, existence in the nineteenth century. With Charlie’s help, she sets out to find what happened to her family, while not knowing if she will ever see them again.

Unfortunately, neither of them anticipated falling in love and now Molly must decide between saving her family or staying with the man she loves.

How do you choose between love and duty?

REVIEW:

The thing I love most about Kiltie Jackson’s Lovestyle series is that each time you read one, you get the joy of returning to the familiarity of characters you know and love, but at the same time, with the focus shifting to a new pairing in each book, you also get to discover fresh new faces. Each story, and with it, each heroine, is vastly different from the one before.

Kiltie Jackson creates female characters who are strong, and fiercely independent, and whilst a man falls into the “nice to have” category, they in no way require one to save them – no weepy, damsels in distress in the Lovestyle series, thank you very much (apart from when Molly quite literally needs rescuing from the river, but that’s completely different).

In Molly, we meet a truly wonderful character and one who is so far ahead of the time in which she was born – both in spirit, and at times physically. Her discovery of all things 21st century is a pure delight. Whilst we can look back in time and see just how much things have changed since the 19th century, it is unimaginable how it would feel to suddenly have all the changes thrust upon you, and yet Molly takes it all in her stride. In fact, she thrives on embracing all the changes with barely a flicker of nerves.

In time travel tales, the sudden disappearance of a loved one from their own time is often overlooked, but Kiltie Jackson deal with this skilfully and dramatically, and at the same time uses this to inject intrigue into the present day story.

Although this book works well as a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the whole series, a) because it’s great, and b) because then you get the added joy of seeing your favourite characters pop up in the other books.

The entire Lovestyle series is the perfect escape from the difficult times that we find ourselves in, and the first three books are currently on offer on Amazon, so why not snap up your copies now and catch up on them ready for the release of book four on 15th April. Each book is free on the dates shown below and just £0.99 in between times.

An Incidental Lovestyle – Kiltie Jackson

I am beyond excited to be talking to you all about Kiltie Jackson’s third novel today. Before we go any further though, if you haven’t read her first two, A Rock and Roll Lovestyle and An Artisan Lovestyle yet, you really must (preferably before you read this one).

BLURB:

It only takes one small incident to change your life…

Jenny Marshall is your stereotypical, middle-aged, spinster. She works in a library, has two cats and likes cake. She has her dreams but not the courage to chase them.

Jeff Rowland fell in love at first sight with Jenny four years ago but hasn’t seen her since. When they bump into each other again, he realises his feelings haven’t changed.

When Jenny’s car breaks down on a cold winter’s day, it sets off a chain of events which brings them together in a way neither could ever have imagined. Both, however, have dark secrets in their past which begin to seep into their present.

Will these secrets bring them closer together?

Or will they shatter their relationship beyond repair?

REVIEW:

Opening the front cover of one of Kiltie’s books feels like coming home after a long trip. Yes, you may have enjoyed the trip, but nothing quite beats being back in the welcoming arms of the familiar and the warm glow that Kiltie’s writing style generates.

As with the previous Lovestyle books, this reads perfectly well as a standalone, but I heartily recommend starting at the beginning, because you will see familiar faces popping up along the way, and I feel it’s nice to get to know them in the right order.

Reading about Jenny, and her secret bookshop dream, I felt instantly drawn to her. The way she describes her ideal bookshop, it felt like Kiltie had looked inside my head and discovered my own long held ambition. As the dream began to look as though it might become a reality, I felt as excited for Jenny as I would have if it was me doing it, and I felt lifted by the enthusiasm of each of the characters involved.

Once again Kiltie has created a cast of characters who feel more like family than fiction – the kind of family that anyone would long to be welcomed into. With the exception of one (who will remain nameless for you to discover) I fell in love with each and every one of them.

An Incidental Lovestyle is a book that made me laugh and cry in equal measure. I must have been driving one poor friend mad as I kept messaging her throughout the book telling her that she just absolutely had to read this book. It is brilliant in its story-telling and slow uncovering of long held secrets, and the ending is just perfect beyond words.

Without saying too much, there is mention of a possible future renovation project involving a windmill – Kiltie, if you should happen to read this review, please, please make this the subject of a future book!!!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

An Artisan Lovestyle Head Shot Piccie

Kiltie grew up in Glasgow in Scotland. This is a very unique city with a very unique way of looking at life. When she was old enough to do so, she moved to London and then, after several years of obtaining interesting experiences -which are finding their way into her writing – she moved up to the Midlands.

Kiltie currently lives in Staffordshire with five cats and one grumpy husband. Her little home is known as Moggy Towers, even though despite having plenty of moggies, there are no towers! The cats kindly allow her and Mr Mogs to share their house on the condition they keep paying the mortgage!

Kiltie loves reading, watching movies, and visiting old castles. She really dislikes going to the gym! Her biggest desire is that one day she can give up the day job and write her stories for a living.

Kiltie’s debut novel, ‘A Rock ‘n’ Roll Lovestyle’, was released in September 2017 and won a “Chill With A Book – Reader Award” in December 2017. She first began writing her debut novel eleven years before it was released but shelved it as she didn’t think it was very good. In November 2016 when, having read more on a best-selling author who had begun her own career as a self-published author, she was inspired to revisit the unfinished manuscript and finally finish what she had started. Since beginning to write again, the ideas have not stopped flowing.

‘An Incidental Lovestyle’ is the third book in the Lovestyle Series. She currently has a further ten plots and ideas stored in her file (it’s costing a fortune in USB drives as each story has its own memory stick!) and the ideas still keep on coming.

Kiltie now lives her life around the following three quotes:

“I love having weird dreams, they’re great fodder for book plots!”

“Why wait for your ship to come in when you can swim out to meet it?”

“Old enough to know better, young enough not to care!”

Book Review

An Artisan Lovestyle – Kiltie Jackson

I recently had the privilege to take part in the cover reveal for An Artisan Lovestyle, and I am so happy that today I finally get to tell the world what I think of the latest offering from Kiltie Jackson. I fell in love with her debut novel A Rock & Roll Lovestyle earlier this year, so the follow up had big shoes to fill. Was it up to the challenge? Read on to find out.

An Artisan Lovestyle - Hi-res

BLURB:

Are you ‘living’ your life or just living your life?

Elsa Clairmont was widowed barely five years after marrying her childhood sweetheart. She has struggled to come to terms with the loss and, six years later, has almost ceased to live herself. She does just enough to get by.

Danny Delaney is the ultimate ‘Mr Nice Guy’. He’s kind, caring and sweet. A talented artist in his teens, his abusive mother ruined his career in art and he turned his back on his exceptional gift. Now, he does just enough to get by.

On New Year’s Eve, both Danny and Elsa die in unrelated accidents.

Thanks to some poker playing shenanigans, Elsa’s husband Harry, and Danny’s old Art teacher, William, manage to orchestrate a deal with Death that allows Danny and Elsa to live for one more year on the condition they both agree to complete three tasks. They have until the last chime of Big Ben on the 31st December to fulfil their quests.

If they succeed, they stay in the world of the living.

If they should fail however…

‘An Artisan Lovestyle’ is a story of personal growth and self-discovery as two people find themselves forced to make overdue changes in their lives, changes in other people’s lives, and all with the added challenge of finding true love before their time runs out.

Will they do it?

Can they do it?

After all, it’s a matter of Life or Death…

If that sounds good to you, you can purchase your very own copy here.  If, like me, you are supposed to be on a book buying ban, check out the very tempting giveaway below.

REVIEW:

To answer the question raised at the beginning of this post, I am pleased to report that An Artisan Lovestyle more than met my high expectations following A Rock & Roll Lovestyle (incidentally, if you haven’t read this yet, why not? Off you go, buy it now!) Slipping between the pages and rediscovering my favourite characters felt like coming home, with Kiltie’s easy, conversational style of writing greeting you like a mug of hot chocolate and a fleecy blanket (I’m having cravings for winter as I struggle through this heatwave!). As lovely as it was to see these old friends again, perhaps even more wonderful was getting the chance to better acquaint yourself with some of their loved ones who you had previously only had a little peek at. With the exception of the vile Sandra, I challenge you not to take each and every character straight into your heart.

An Artisan Lovestyle presents the unique premise of being given a second chance after death to change your life and start over, and to really live. At one level, this book is a lovely tale of two people who are given a second chance at finding happiness after wasting years just plodding through life, but on a deeper level it is a thought-provoking read that makes you really think about whether you are truly living, or just going through the motions. If you had a finite timeline in which to make some changes and really start living, what would you do? I know there are a few things I would change.

One character I feel deserves a special mention is Death himself. He had me in stitches. I am a big fan of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books, and Death is my all time favourite character in the series. Well, Kiltie Jackson’s Death is right up there with him in my opinion. He deserves his very own novel about his adventures!
