Reflected Destinies – Florence Keeling

It is my stop on the blog tour for Reflected Destinies today.

BLURB:

Laura is happy and content, she has a new boyfriend and loves her job teaching primary school pupils in London. But when she inherits a rundown house from a stranger on her 30th birthday, memories of her prom night come flooding back, memories of a scary encounter and an antique mirror in the very same house.

Laura visits the house with all its secrets and as she unravels the clues she reveals the biggest secret of all: her own destiny. But how can you change the future if it’s already written in the past?

REVIEW:

The beginning of this book took me right back to my teenage years when, like Laura and her friends, my friends and I decided that we would visit our local “haunted”house. Thankfully, the only ghosts there were figments of our imagination. I think I would have died on the spot if I had seen what Laura did.

What I initially thought was going to be the sort of creepy ghost story that I would only be able to read during daylight hours (I am a wimp with a slight fear of mirrors – I blame the film, The Candyman, for that) actually turned out to be an endearing love story as Laura renovates the old house and unlocks it’s secrets.

Although I liked all the characters, special mention has to go to Chester, the time hopping ginger cat, who keeps an ever watchful eye over both sides of the mirror.

Reflected Destinies is a beautiful, endearing love story of an old house and the people who lived there across the decades. I don’t want to give anything away, but the ending did bring a tear or two to my eye.
