Hunter’s Revenge – Val Penny

It is time for part two of my review series of The Edinburgh Crime Series.

Hunter by name – Hunter by nature: DI Hunter Wilson will not rest until his friend’s death is revenged.

DI Hunter Wilson is called to the scene of a murder. He is shocked to find the victim is his friend and colleague, George Reinbold. Who would want to harm the quiet, old man? Why was a book worth £23,000 delivered to him that morning? Why is the security in George’s home so intense? Hunter must investigate his friend’s past as well as the present to identify the killer and identify George’s killer. Hunter also finds a new supply of cocaine from Peru flooding HMP Edinburgh and the city. The courier leads Hunter to the criminal gang but Hunter requires the help of his nemesis, the former Chief Constable, Sir Peter Myerscough and local gangster Ian Thomson to make his case. Hunter’s perseverance and patience are put to the test time after time in this taught crime thriller.

Hopefully some of you will remember my previous review of Hunter’s Chase and how much I enjoyed it. As such I had high hopes as I headed into the second book in the series. I am pleased to report that I wasn’t disappointed. Slipping between the pages of this book and meeting up with D.I. Hunter Wilson’s dedicated team felt a little like coming home. I also enjoyed catching up with some of less law abiding characters from Hunter’s Chase and seeing how life has treated them since the events of the first book.

As the team investigate the murder of a much loved colleague and battle to stem the flow of cocaine into Edinburgh, you get to know each of them a little better as their personal stories develop.

Once again, Val Penny has created a crime mystery full of interwoven relationships and intrigue that will keep you guessing right to the very end.

The book sets the scene nicely for the third installment of the Edinburgh Crime Mysteries, and I can’t wait to read it!
